A Little Math Game

Repetition leads to mastery, but repetition can be really boring. Finding creative ways to repeat the same material for students can be challenging and frustrating-- looking around the room and combining games or materials is one of the best ways to come up with ideas. Here's one of my success stories. The other day, I was looking at a game that's been gathering dust in my room this year-- it's called Flip 4, and it's a great game for fact mastery and strategy-- for that reason, it's easily differentiated. Because my students also need repetition with concepts in addition to fact mastery, I added another layer. Best of all, it also significantly reduced impulsivity and even competition. The layer I added is to use a Stern number track and Stern blocks to reinforce concepts and build mastery. It worked!
